The Students of Aligarh Muslim University participated in the Prophet Muhamamd birthday on 25 Dec. in huge numbers. The participants were seen holding flags with slogans like "Allaho Akbar" and "Labbaik Ya Rasulallah". The international theme of love and peace "Rouhamaa o bainahum" was also propagated by the students in the procession. The procession was organised by the MSO unit of the university.
Many speakers delivered eloquent speeches at the Vice Chancellors lodge, Baab-e-Syed and Strachey hall and spoke about the different aspects of the virtuous personality of the Holy Prophet (pbuh). "The life of Holy Prophet is a beacon of guidance for all the humans, he is 'Rahmatul-lil-aalameen' (Mercy to the Worlds) which means he is not Rehmat (Mercy) just for Muslims but for the whole world" said Murtaza, a university old boy.
The procession started from the Arts gallery of the university and commenced at the Strachey hall of the university where the students prayed for the peace and harmony all over the world. The participants also distributed sweets and chocolates to the passersby as a token of love and sharing happiness.
The week between 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal and 17th Rabi-ul-Awwal is commemorated as a Muslim unity week.
According to traditions narrated from Sunni Muslim scholars, the birthday of the final Prophet of Islam falls on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal while the Shias consider 17th Rabi-ul-Awwal as the exact date of birth.
In order to bridge this difference and use it as an opportunity to unite Muslims, Iran’s Imam Khomeini designated the period from 12th to the 17th of Rabi al-Awwal as the Islamic Unity Week. This dynamic concept aims to bring all Muslim schools of thought on the common platform of Islamic unity.
